Whether in my own backyard or some tropical forest, the variety of wildlife subjects I will encounter at night always far exceeds what I can find during the day! As with all nature photography that I do, it is more effective for me to work alone, even at night. So, not having an assistant along to put a focusing light on my subjects requires me to be able to do this myself. My flash bracket is fitted with a focusing light that is powered by my 3 D-cell flashlight (using a small length of electrical cord). I can photograph frogs singing at night quite easily with this set-up. Even when I am working with a captive subject in a controlled setting, I find that I can still get better poses faster if I work nocturnally with my nocturnal subjects. Makes perfect sense eh? I work very very quickly. The vast majority of the photos on my Rainforest Frogs gallery were done using this bracket.
